About
Read the man page.
Network Topology
The above graph gives a quick overview of how pkgd works. The user on machine U will first query the master server, M, for a package. If M has that package, it will be sent back to U. If not, M will query the slave servers, S1 through S5, until the package is found. If the package is found, U will be forwarded to the slave which has the package. If the package cannot be found, M will return a "not found" message and U will then move on to query the servers from the mirrorlist (i.e. on the external network).
Powerpill
Pkgd is integrated into powerpill. When using powerpill, no error messages are displayed when a package cannot be found.
